“The Hot Chick” Celebrates 15 Year Anniversary

Rachel’s feature film debut “The Hot Chick” celebrated it’s 15 year anniversary earlier this month. The movie was released on December 13, 2002 in the United States. Rachel costarred alongside Rob Schneider, Anna Faris, Matthew Lawrence, Eric Christian Olsen and more. To promote the movie, the cast was featured in Seventeen Magazine’s January 2003 issue. Rachel told Seventeen: “We were a pretty tight-knit group. If we had to work through the night, we’d stay on the set and watch the sun come up together.”

The movie seem to have special place in Rachel’s heart to this date. She told Vogue in 2009: “My first film in the U.S. and a huge milestone in my life.” While promoting “Spotlight“, Rachel told People Magazine she credits the movie and Rob Schneider for her career: “I was testing for a pilot to play Nancy Drew, and I didn’t get it. I went to another audition, but I was so devastated that I wasn’t even concentrating. I got the other role instead. It was The Hot Chick, and I switched bodies with Rob Schneider. I really have to thank Rob Schneider!”. Switching bodies with Schneider was “one of the hardest jobs I’ve had to date”. She echoed in 2014 to Allure Magazine: “It was probably one of the scariest moments I’ve had in my career. It stretched me in ways I could never have imagined.” She recalls, “I remember standing backstage, dressed like a mechanic. I had a pink bikini on underneath, grease on my face, and I just remember breathing deep and thinking. Oh. my God, I have to go out there and do this striptease, as a man…as a woman. How did I get here?”

Director Tom Brady revealed in the DVD commentary that they did an “exhaustive continent 3 months search” to cast Rachel’s role. He added: “She happened to be in town auditioning for another part [Nancy Drew] and we were holding our breath, wishing that she didn’t get the other part, wising against her success so we could have her all to ourselves. And she did great! We wanted to find someone who is stunning and a good actress, but also someone who can play a guy convincingly and she is the only one who really, really nailed it.”

Rob Schneider continued to show support for Rachel throughout her career. Back in 2016, Rob congratulated Rachel on her Oscar nomination on his official twitter account. More recently he supported Rachel after her interview with Vanity Fair. He said: “Rachel McAdams, I’m so proud of you. Not just as one of our greatest actors, but also for being such an amazing, strong human being. Love, Rob.” Rachel gave Rob a shout-out during her 2014 Canada Walk Of Fame Induction speech: “[Thank you to] my manger Shelley Browning whose persistence led my to landing my breakthrough role in a movie where I got to switch bodies with Rob Schneider – every girls dream. So thank you, Rob Schneider.” While promoting “The Vow” in 2012, Rachel played a game during The Ellen DeGeneres Show and she correctly guessed Rob.

Fun Fact: Rachel met her friend Megan Kuhlmann on-set of the movie with whom she would later cofound her environmentalist website GreenIsSexy.org. Rachel told Vogue in 2009 she and Megan “would take the shuttle bus to Macy’s to hang out at the makeup counter and eat at Islands. We’d sit in the hot tub at night and talk about our day.” Another fun fact: Rachel brought Megan as her red carpet date during the 2016 SAG Awards, where she also reunited with Anna Faris. After their reunion, Anna shared on her official twitter account: “it [is] so great to see friends even under crazy circumstances.” A few years before, Rachel reunited with Melora Hardin, who plays her mother in the movie, during the 2007 SAG Awards.
