Rachel has signed the open letter ‘We stand with Grassy Narrows‘ in support of the Grassy Narrows. The David Suzuki Foundation released the following press release:
A diverse group of celebrities, musicians, artists and advocates — including Margaret Atwood, Rachel McAdams, Jane Fonda and Phil Fontaine — has joined the David Suzuki Foundation’s call to clean up massive mercury contamination that has plagued the Grassy Narrows First Nation community in northern Ontario for generations. In the 1960s, a pulp mill dumped more than 9,000 kilograms of mercury, a potent neurotoxin, into the English-Wabigoon River.
“For over half a century, mercury has severely poisoned the river that is the lifeblood of the Grassy Narrows First Nation and their neighbours,” said renowned broadcaster and scientist David Suzuki. “We must not delay; it is time to make their watershed healthy again so it can sustain future generations.”
Earlier this week, scientists released a report concluding that remediation of the English-Wabigoon watershed is possible. The report was supported by leaders from the First Nation, who are demanding the Government of Ontario commit to cleaning up the watershed.

Everywhere on Earth we can hear the songs of life. From small insects to the largest animals on the planet, our world is made up of the sounds of these creatures living and communicating with one another. This is even more apparent deep down in the darkness of the sea, where whales and other marine life depend on sound to mate, find food, migrate, raise their young and defend against predators. Yet, their symphony of life is being disrupted by the industrialized noise that has become commonplace in our oceans today – with tragic and deadly costs. The documentary will air at 9 PM ET/PT on the Discovery Channel. Be sure to check your local listing for the time.
We first reported this news on our twitter news back in March, but now finally more information has become available. Rachel will be featured on Daniel Romano’s upcoming album “Mosey“. Romano is a Canadian musician. Rolling Stone is reporting that Rachel will be featured on the third song of the album, titled “Toulouse“. Daniel Romano recently spoke to Kreative Kontrol (distributed by audioBoom) and revealed Rachel a special guest on his song and is ‘essentially playing a role’. We have added the audio of Romano’s interview our audio archive. Romano’s interview also included a preview of “Toulouse“, which you can find after the jump.
Romano On Working With Rachel: “The song basically called for it [a collaboration]. Once it was written it was a two-character type song and it felt like a character that could go beyond a vocal performance. Something that needed more feeling than just signing. I have known Rachel for a little while, almost 3 years now, and it just seemed like the right fit. She’s an incredible actor. She’s the best […] and she was totally game right off the bat and just killed it and destroyed it. It virtually took 10 minutes, the whole thing.”

In other possible related news: Rachel was spotted on-set of a music video this last weekend in Canada. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but it seems likely it’s related to her collaboration with Daniel Romano.
