The 36-year-old Canadian actress talks all things True Detective…
How would you describe your character, Ani?
She is very courageous in places I probably wouldn’t be. She certainly has no qualms about putting herself in harm’s way to do what’s right. She’s like a dog with a bone. She will do what she believes is the right thing to do to protect society and those who can’t protect themselves.
Very few details have been released about the second season? Are you happy about that?
Personally, I hate spoilers. I don’t want to know anything. I used to read scripts and not want to know who was in them, who was directing or who wrote it.
The show is very dark and brooding. Was there a similar atmosphere surrounding the True Detective cast and set?
No, there was a lightness and a levity around the set. We really focused when we needed to, but there wasn’t a sense of heaviness despite the dark material.
What was it like working with Colin Farrell?
Colin is an absolute sweetheart. We spent a fair amount of time hanging out together and bringing snacks to each other. He’s a big snack guy.
What did you think of the first season of the show?
I thought it was incredible. I binge-watched it in a cabin in the woods. It was both the perfect setting and the worst setting to watch it.
