Robert Downey Jr. Gives New Sherlock Holmes 2 Details

Rachel is still not officially in the go for Sherlock Holmes 2, but Robert Downey Jr. gave us a little more insight. Check it out:

Downey also spoke about who will return for the sequel, such as his Sherlock Holmes co-star Rachel McAdams, although it seems that those decisions haven’t been made as of yet.

“It’s hard to say [who is coming back],” Downey said. The biggest question mark is on Holmes’ love interest in the first outing, played by Rachel McAdams. “Because Irene Adler only appeared in one of the stories of Doyle’s reservoir of activities. But we’ll find out quickly.”

More Sherlock Holmes 2 Details

I know that Rachel has not been confirmed yet for the Sherlock Holmes sequel, however, since more details have been released, I thought it might be interesting to post :)

With Robery Downey Jr.’s Golden Globes win for ‘Best Actor In A Comedy Or Musical’ and a worldwide gross of over $350 million, Sherlock Holmes is a smash hit however you look at it. In the US it’s still high in the charts and will shortly pass the $200m mark. Not bad for a production budget of $90m.

Warner Bros. actually commissioned a script for Sherlock Holmes 2 three months before the first movie was even released. It’s becoming increasingly common for studios to do this for movies with pre-release ‘buzz’ as it enables a sequel to get into production faster, for less cost.

Since they did that they’re now in the process of locking down the cast for a June start date. Downey Jr. recently passed on the lead role in Jon Favreau’s Cowboys And Aliens to free up that time.

It’s not known whether Sherlock Holmes 2 will invent a new story or draw on previous Conan Doyle material but it is likely that Moriarty will step out of the shadows. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Pitt had discussions with producers back in September about the role. We don’t know yet if an agreement was reached. Of course Pitt has already worked with Guy Ritchie, on 2000’s Snatch, and it would be interesting to see him play his first out and out villain, although I’m not convinced he really ‘does’ accents. Of course Gary Oldman would be a great choice. Ralph Fiennes a safe one. Alan Rickman seems like he was born to play the role.

Le Grand Journal France

I finally managed to get the full interview of Rachel during “Le Grand Journal” in France on January 15, 2010. Big thanks to Green! You can watch the interview in our media archive and the screencaptures are added in our gallery.

‘Sherlock Holmes’ To Get Sequel

Just three months after the release of Guy Ritchie’s “Sherlock Holmes,” a sequel is already in pre-production. The sequel’s been talked about in the studio way before the first one even came out.

All of the main cast from the original will be in the movie, including Robert Downy Jr., Jude Law and Rachel McAdams. Guy Ritchie has also been confirmed to direct the sequel. It is not clear at this point if the sequel will be completely new material or based on the books of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, but if the wireless transmitter in the first movie is any indication, it doesn’t look like it will be from the source material, at least, not completely.

Writers have not been named just yet for the film, but the original writers are rumored to be back on board.

Brad Pitt will return as Professor Moriarty, Holmes’ recurring nemesis, and says he’s happy to work with Ritchie again. Pitt said he’s just happy that his wife didn’t snatch the role away from him.

It is still a rumor until confirmed
